Google Gemini AI 1.5 Upgrade Brings Faster Results for Free Users on Android
Google is rolling out Gemini 1.5 Flash for free users of the chatbot on Android. It touts faster responses, improves functionality, and more.
There is good news if you’re disappointed with slow and inaccurate responses in Google Gemini AI on Android. The LLM’s newest version, designated as 1.5 Flash, is rolling out now and is available in 40 languages in over 230 countries.
So, if you have been disappointed with Google’s Gemini AI experience or have never used it, now is a good time to reconsider. Google is rolling out what it’s calling its Gemini 1.5 Flash model, which will respond faster to your requests, provide more accurate data, and provide links to related content.
Faster Results and Longer Engagement with Google Gemini 1.5 Flash
The upgrade will allow free users to have longer and more engaging back-and-forth conversations with the chatbot. The update will also allow you to ask Gemini more complex questions.
In its announcement, Google exec Amar Subramanya notes: “With Gemini 1.5 Flash, you’ll notice across-the-board improvements in quality and latency, with especially noticeable improvements in reasoning and image understanding.”
Free users can also upload local files to Gemini in their prompts or analyze their files in Google Drive and have it create content using the file’s data.
In addition to the update, the company is expanding its availability in Google messages and the Gemini for Teens experience. Teenagers who meet the minimum age requirement to manage their own Google Account can access Gemini. The company wants to see teens acclimated to AI as development continues. All while prioritizing safety and addressing their developmental needs. Google is also introducing an AI literacy guide to encourage responsible use.
If you have the Gemini chatbot app installed, you should see the improved model in the coming week. If you don’t see it, you can always update your Android apps to ensure you can start using it.
Google’s AI (initially named Bard and later Gemini) was not well received out of the gate. Many users were frustrated by slow and inaccurate results. The company took a hit as users took to social media to post screenshots of the absurd answers it generated.
However, as with all technology, Google has updated and improved the technology. This latest release gives free users a better and more robust version.
