You can connect your Android phone and Windows 11 in many ways and effortlessly transfer files using File Explorer. For example, we showed you how to use the mobile devices feature to use your phone as a webcam.

Now, Microsoft is rolling out the ability to access Android files through File Explorer. While you can use Google Nearby Share to send docs and photos from your phone to your PC, it’s limited. However, this new method uses the Link to Windows app and the Manage Mobile Devices feature built into Windows 11. The end result is a more straightforward file transfer experience between devices.

Note: Currently, to use this feature, you need to be running the beta version of the Link to Windows app (1.2407 or above) on your Android phone. The Microsoft blog post also notes that you need to be running Android 11 or higher and run an updated build from any channel in the Windows Insider program. Once this comes to a stable release, we’ll update this article.

Moving Data Between Android and Your PC via File Explorer

This is a time-saving feature since you don’t need to connect your phone to your laptop to access files physically. However, since this is still under development, there may be bugs, and things may not work as expected.

Also, during setup, if you don’t see the Access in File Explorer switch, regardless of build number, you don’t have it yet. Microsoft is slowly rolling it out to everyone.
